Bayer Advanced™ lawn and garden expert and horticulturist Lance Walheim has been providing helpful tips to gardeners for decades on national and local television, radio, the Internet, and in newspapers.
Lance has appeared on ABC’s Rose Parade® broadcast, HGTV, DIY Network, Discovery Channel, and on local television lifestyle shows and gardening radio shows throughout the United States.
He’s a senior editor of the Sunset Western Garden Book and a regular contributor to Sunset magazine, Sunset.com, Gardencompass.com and the syndicated Garden Compass radio show. His gardening videos can be found on Bayeradvanced.com and Lowe’s YouTube Channel, among others.
Lance has authored or contributed to more than 30 gardening books, including the bestselling Roses for Dummies, Lawn Care for Dummies, Landscaping for Dummies, Vegetable Gardening for Dummies, Citrus and the Southern Living Garden Book.
Lance has a beautiful rose garden outside his home in Exeter, California. He also grows specialty citrus such as Cara Cara Pink Navel oranges and Meyer lemons on his 17-acre citrus ranch. Those delicious fruits can be found in grocery stores across the United States.
Lance started gardening when he was just 12 years old. He earned his B.A. in botany from the University of California at Berkley. His wife, Laura, is a commercial realtor. They have two daughters: Ashley, who will enter college this fall, and Teale, who is in the Peace Corps in Guinea.
Lance’s brother, Rex, is an astronaut. Rex took a rose on the space shuttle Atlantis. The “space rose” traveled 5.3 million miles and was featured on the Bayer Advanced Garden of Oz Rose Parade float on January 1, 2009.
